Wheelton Boat Yard is a family owned business situated by the picturesque Johnsons Hillock Locks on the Leeds and Liverpool canal. We have over 15 years experience in boat building, servicing, repairs and all other aspects of canal boating.
From the beginning, we have been committed to providing the highest standards to our boating community. The company has grown steadily over the past 7 years and we have recently acquired our new premises here at Wheelton Boat Yard. This move has enabled us to expand the services we can offer.
Conveniently situation on the canal side with the benefit of 48 hour mooring right next door. So whether you are a boat owner already or just interested in becoming one, the staff at Wheelton Boat Yard are always happy to help.

Fully Insured 30 ton Crane for lifting all narrow boats
Fully Insured 30 ton Crane capable of lifting all narrow boats. We can also accommodate anyone who requires a Wide Beam shell lifting off transportation into the water.
All our staff are highly experienced and treat your boat with the upmost respect and care.
Fixed Price lift from £350
Unlike other boat yards our prices are fixed.
Boats up to 45ft will be lifted out of the water and put back in again for only £350.00.
Boats 46ft plus cost £450.00.
Should your boat require only one lift, i.e. on or off transportation, the price is fixed at £200.00.
Hull Blacking only £6.00 per foot
Once your boat is lifted onto the hard standing we offer a comprehensive blacking service for only £6.00 per foot
Your hull will be scraped, power washed and 3 coats of bitumen applied. 2 pack blacking, prices are available upon request.
Hard Standing £3.50 per day
The fee for this facility is £3.50 per day for any size of boat. With expert help from our staff and it’s on site Chandlery, Wheelton Boat Yard is the perfect place to start your DIY project.
Although space is limited, we do offer hard standing for short term DIY projects during the summer months. Longer term hard standing is available during the months of October to March.

Narrow Boat Builders & Widebeam Builders
We specialise in all areas of boat fitting from repairs to refits to new builds. All our new builds are built in accordance with the British Marine Federation contract and meet all the requirements of the EU’s Recreational Craft Directive. They come complete with a Declaration of Conformity along with an owners manual. All our boats are CE marked.
We offer a range of fit outs to suit every budget starting with The Sailaway. This is sold as a waterproof shell with ballast, sub floor, spray foam insulation, engine to suit, start battery, windows and doors. A step up from The Sailaway is The Sailaway Lined. This includes all the above with additional plumbing and electrical tails, internal linings to cabin sides and ceiling and bulkheads.
This includes all the above with the addition of fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, saloon and bedroom/s all fitted out to customer requirements, leisure batteries, inverter charger,diesel central heating and multi fuel stove.
